The First Inter School MUN Conference of Summerfield International School was nothing short of Delight!
Subha Mahmud, Reporter.
Summerfield International School hosted their first ever inter-school Model United Nations - SFIS MUN- from September 1st to September 3rd. The MUN was hosted entirely by the students of SFIS at the humbling main branch of Summerfield International School.
I was invited as a guest reporter of the Director General (DG) - Muhammed Sadeeb and had the most wonderful time amidst the exceptionally talented organizers of SFISMUN.
Model United Nations is now a very common event in Bangladesh especially among English medium Schools. It’s so popular that all the MUNs in different schools host them at a certain season;. It's safe to say that I've been a part of the MUN season and the artists that have legislated amazing conferences for their fellow students, SFIS being one among them.
Despite not making it to the 1st and 3rd days of the conference, I visited the premises on the 2nd day. I would like to mention the kind gestures of the director general -Muhammed Sadeeb and USG of food and logistics - Tahsin Ishraq for humbly escorting me to the premises, ensuring that my visit was nonchalant. As I stepped into the premises of their beautiful campus I was greeted with the SB members as well as the promotional partners. Yes, SFISMUN partnered with the youth organizations - Agamir Hashi and Hope Bangladesh.
Both these youth organizations have stood out and made themselves efficient in an event such as this. Agamir Hashi is an organization focusing on mental health and Hope Bangladesh is an organization focusing on charity and societal development. Both these organizations have proved themselves useful in terms of delegate hospitality and promotion. In fact, Abdur Rahman - the advisor of SFISMUN is the founder of Hope BD. He has created a chain of optimistic outcomes from his leadership in this organization as well as SFIS. Furthermore, I have had the absolute pleasure of connecting with Agamir Hashi representatives- Nurul Arefin, Mursalin and Arnob.
Additionally, I have had the utmost pleasure of interviewing Zaara Amrita Nawal - USG of Equity.
To be candid, the interview with Zaara has been one of the most productive and insightful interviews I have done in a long time. She is the epitome of elegance; is well-presented and has a shrewd choice of words that has made me interested to attend upcoming events organized by this institution.
I was particularly interested in the USG of Equity because of the strict maintenance of the protocols and thoroughly constructed Equity Policy. The USG of Equity has had their eyes fixated on creating a safe and comfortable environment for the delegates both during the session and outside the sessions.
“We want the delegates to be comfortable enough to reach out to us so we can work on their issues. We want each of our delegates to have healthy communication with us. Afterall, at the end of the day we want them to have a good time.”
Zaara Amrita Nawal
Moreover, during an unexpected issue of misconduct, I asked Zaara to expand on the emergency procedures they had up their sleeves to manage such a situation. She has kindly assured me that they have had an active protocol where the delegates were of course asked to come forward but in case they did not because of personal reasons, the team has a form in their instagram bio just for the sole purpose of reporting such incidents. She has also stressed on the factor of anonymity, ensuring the safety of the delegates. Zaara has, with utmost significance, informed that there were degrees of tolerance in cases such as misbehavior, physical attack, harassment and the sorts. Each had its own penalty and the person was required to deal with it or leave the premises. This goes without saying, but the SBs, EBs, teachers and all faculty members have been severely instructed to look over all sites, classrooms and patrol during the breaks to ensure security. They also have security at the gate of the location monitoring entrance and exits of delegates as well as faculty members.
To cap off this (gigantic article) i would like to thank the Secretary General, Abdullah Sami; the Deputy Secretary General, Kazi Tahsan Mahmud; the Special Envoy, Ashrad Haque; Director General Muhammed Sadeeb and of course, Under Secretary General, Zaara Amrita Nawal for accommodating me at such a short notice!
